No sign-up, login or profile of any kind.
The app doesn't collect, store or sell your location or anything else.
No analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
Places and routes stay on your devices and in your private iCloud.
What we collect
Nothing. GoBack has no servers of its own. Your saved places, routes and settings are stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch. We have no way to see where you are, where you've been or what you've saved.
Permissions, and why GoBack asks
iOS asks for your permission before GoBack can use any of these. You can change them at any time in Settings › GoBack.
| Permission | What it's used for |
|---|---|
| Location (while using) | Showing where you are, pointing the compass at your places, saving spots and measuring distances. |
| Location (always) (optional) | Recording a route and keeping navigation going while the screen is off or GoBack is in the background, and refreshing the Saved Places widget. |
| Motion & Fitness (optional) | Knowing whether you're walking, running, cycling or driving, for better arrival times and smoother guidance. |
| Notifications (optional) | The parking meter reminder, scheduled on your device. |
| Apple Health (Apple Watch) (optional) | Starting a workout session so the Watch keeps its GPS on with your wrist down. GoBack doesn't read any of your health data. |
iCloud backup
If you're signed in to iCloud, GoBack can back up your places, routes and settings to your private iCloud database, so they come back on a new iPhone. Apple stores this for you; we can't read it. You can delete the backup from GoBack's settings at any time, and turning off iCloud for GoBack stops it.
Maps and weather
To show maps and weather, GoBack uses services that need to know roughly which area you're looking at:
- Apple Maps draws the map, finds places when you search, and downloads offline map areas. Apple handles this under its own privacy policy.
- Weather provides the forecast for your area, also under Apple's privacy policy. Weather data sources.
Sharing and other apps
When you share a place, it goes only where you send it. When you choose “Open in” Google Maps or Waze, the place's coordinates are handed to that app, and its own privacy policy applies from there. Pasting a map link into GoBack reads it on your device.
Apple Watch, widgets and Live Activities
The Watch app talks to your iPhone directly over Apple's WatchConnectivity framework. Widgets, Live Activities and the Dynamic Island show information from GoBack on your own device. Nothing goes through us.
Siri and Shortcuts
GoBack's Siri phrases and Shortcuts actions run on your device. Siri requests are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy.
Contacting us
If you email us or use the contact form, we receive only what you choose to send, such as your email address, your message and any screenshots. Form messages are kept on our own server with basic technical details (browser, device, approximate location and IP address) so we can keep spam out. We use them only to reply and to fix problems, never share them, and delete them when they're no longer needed.
This website
The app collects nothing, but this website keeps simple visit statistics on our own server so we can see what's useful. There's no advertising and no third-party analytics, and nothing is sold or shared.
- What's recorded: the pages you view and for how long, what you tap (such as Download, the film, the theme picker and the demos), the site that sent you here, your browser, device type, screen size and language, and your approximate location (country, and sometimes city) from our network provider, Cloudflare.
- Your address: your IP address is stored without its last part, so it doesn't point to your connection.
- Telling visits apart: a random ID kept in your browser's storage on this site. Your theme choice is kept in a cookie. Neither is shared with anyone, and clearing this site's data removes them.
- Opting out: if your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, no visit statistics are recorded.
- How long: visit statistics are deleted after 13 months.
Children
GoBack collects no personal data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If GoBack ever starts collecting data, we'll say so here clearly first.
