Saving places
How do I save where I parked?
Tap Save on the Compass tab, say “I parked here” to Siri, or add the “I parked here” control to Control Center or your Lock Screen. GoBack can also save the car automatically: in the Shortcuts app, create an automation for when CarPlay (or your car's Bluetooth) disconnects, and add GoBack's Save Parking Spot action.
Can I save a place from a link someone sent me?
Yes. Open the Apple Maps or Google Maps link's share sheet and choose GoBack, and it becomes a saved place.
How do I set a parking meter reminder?
Touch and hold a place in Locations and choose Parking Meter. Pick when the meter runs out and GoBack reminds you beforehand.
What are MGRS coordinates?
The Military Grid Reference System, used by search and rescue and the military. Choose Standard, MGRS or both in Settings › Coordinates.
The compass
The heading looks wrong.
Compasses are thrown off by metal, magnets and car interiors. Step away from them, and if iOS asks you to calibrate, move your iPhone in a figure eight until the heading settles.
Can I navigate to more than one place?
Up to ten places can sit on the dial at once. In Locations, touch and hold a place and choose Add to Compass.
Does GoBack work without signal?
Yes. The compass, distances and route recording only need GPS, which works anywhere with a view of the sky. Download the map area in Settings › Offline Maps before you go so the map works too.
How do I get spoken directions?
Turn on Voice in the Compass tab's controls, or in Settings › Audio. GoBack speaks the distance, turns and your arrival while the app is on screen. Voice guidance pauses when you leave the app or lock the phone.
Recording and retracing
Does recording drain the battery?
Recording uses GPS, so it uses more power than the compass alone. Low Power Mode makes the dial update less often to save battery, and pausing a recording stops counting distance and time.
How do I retrace a route?
Open Trip History, pick a route and choose Back to Start or Follow Route. The compass then guides you along the path you recorded instead of the straight line.
Can I export my routes?
Yes. Choose Export GPX on a route in Trip History. Most mapping and fitness apps open GPX files.
Apple Watch, widgets and Live Activities
The Watch asks me to open GoBack on my iPhone.
Open GoBack on your iPhone once so the two can sync, keep Bluetooth on, and make sure both apps are up to date.
How do I get GoBack on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island?
Turn on Settings › Dynamic Island in GoBack. Navigation then shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while it runs. Touch and hold the Island to see details.
My Saved Places widget doesn't update.
Allow location for widgets: Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › GoBack › Widgets.

Where are my places stored?
On your iPhone and Watch, and in your private iCloud if iCloud backup is on. See the privacy policy.
How do I move my places to a new iPhone?
With iCloud backup on, sign in with the same Apple Account on the new iPhone and open GoBack. Your places, routes and settings come back.
